CLARISSA SEVERO DE BORBA
– percussions and invented instruments –
Clarissa Severo de Borba began her percussion studies at the Federal University of Santa Maria / Brazil with Ney Rosauro, then with Mark Ford and Christopher Deane at the University of East Carolina / USA where she obtained a Masters in Percussion.
In 2002, she obtained the Doctorate in Percussion at the University of Miami / USA, where she is also a teacher and Director of the Percussion Ensemble. At the same time, she took courses in composition and musical analysis and was particularly interested in sound research and the development of “extended techniques” for percussion instruments.
Clarissa Severo de Borba has participated in many creations, in Brazil – notably in the contemporary creation project of Mercosur (works by Frederico Richter, Lindembergue Cardoso, Ney Rosauro), in the United States – works for solo percussion by John Van der Slice , Dennis Kam and Christopher Deane and in Europe (concerts in Spain, France, Belgium as a soloist and with the duo The QuB).
His piece for vibraphone and sound processing Floating Tones was chosen by the Label Hypnos Records / USA to appear among others 10 pieces of experimental music in the album Echoes of Polyhymnia.
Very attracted by contemporary classical music, Clarissa Severo de Borba does in-depth work on the role of percussion in creation and on the methods and techniques to achieve optimal use of these instruments in an ensemble.
She is at the origin of the free improvisation / sound and video project Anatomy of an Instant with Olivier Benoit and Santiago Quintans.
Clarissa Severo de Borba is currently a percussion teacher at the Cholet Conservatory and the Le Mans Conservatory and performs regularly in variable geometry ensembles in France and abroad.
She is also a referent for the city of Le Mans – Cultural Action.
