Blick Bassy is a Cameroonian singer, songwriter, guitarist, percussionist and writer.
The artist, rocked by traditional rhythms and music, has also explored several musical currents. At the age of 17, he formed the band, The Jazz Crew, which achieved success in Cameroon. In 1996, he founded the band Macase which mixes Bantu rhythms with jazz and soul and ensures the notoriety of Blick Bassy with the release of two albums: Etam in 1999 and Doulou in 2003. The Macase band obtains numerous awards at the level national and international such as the RFI World Music Prize
Then in 2005, he decided to pursue his solo career and moved to France. In 2009, he released his album, Léman, recorded at Salif Keita’s studio in Bamako, Mali. With songs in French, English and Bassa, Léman traces the artist’s travels. In May 2011, he produced the album Hongo Calling, a tribute he paid to a traditional Bassa rhythm, the Hongo, and which traces the route of slaves from Cameroon to Brazil who took their music with them.
“1958” released in 2019 is a modern and inventive album, an intimate songwriting, a free mix of folk and blues, melodies with instant charm, a powerful and sensitive voice. “1958” celebrates the heroes of Cameroonian independence and more especially Ruben Um Nyobé, independence leader, executed in 1958.
A captivating musical creation, which is addressed to all, experienced on stage and shared together.
